Welcome to the Trauma, Mental Health, and Recovery (TMHR) Laboratory
at Northern Illinois University
Trauma can come in many forms. From violence against intimate partners and sexual assault, to combat and vehicular accidents, trauma and violence leave few people unaffected over the course of their lives. The aim of the TMHR lab is to examine how duty-related trauma exposure and interpersonal violence impact mental health. Areas of broad focus include the role that emotion regulation, cognitive processes, and/or sleep play in the development and maintenance of post-trauma conditions such as PTSD, depression, and moral injury.
The Trauma, Mental Health and Recovery Lab is comprised of Dr. Michelle Lilly and a team of excellent graduate and undergraduate students. Lab members work under the assumption that an individual’s history and social location (in regard to gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status) play an important role in understanding how trauma impacts an individual’s life.
Graduate student members participate in the Trauma Focus within the Clinical Psychology program. Information regarding the unique contributions and training that is provided within the Trauma Focus can be found here.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about our research.
